Bad Timing - AT4 - 07-09-2008
Am I the only one that finds the timing of the exams to be extremely difficult?
October exams mean that most preparation has to be done over the summer months, when the opportunities to be out and about enjoying the world we live in are far greater then they are over the winter months. (assuming that most of us live in the northern hemisphere?)
I for one feel that I could be much better prepaired if the exams were perhaps held in May (like most other exams in the UK) after spending the long, dark and cold nights of winter shut in with my books and, of course, this forum.

I see where you're coming from, and I agree a litle bit, but I suspect I'd find a reason why it would be better for them to not be when they were. If they were brought forward it might mean our exam results didn't have to compete with the Christmas post.
Fortunately at least this summer's weather hasn't been anything special!

Suggestion:
You may of course do your studying in the long winter months; a very sensible idea. In reality most people won't wish to do so before Christmas so most would wait for the New Year. Once back at work having recently made New Year's resolutions, you'll find the IRSE helpfully arranges the YM AGM and Exam Review within the first few weeks of January. This should give guidance and give the kick-start to get you going. You then work up to around May (and you'd have found that in 2008 we held a YM event to help consolidate that learning). Then you relax over the summer and then return to the fray to have a final tune-up in September. It shouldn't be a last minute binge; note that Peter Martell launched this website in NOV 2007.

Agree with PJW. It is impossible to have a good time to sit the IRSE Exam and as it is you proving your vocational knowledge that you have spent years obtaining and siz months or so gen'ing up on, does the date really matter? If you feel very strongly, why not email or write to the IRSE Office FAO the Exam Committee Chairman.
