Reliability, Availability, Faults & Failures have proved a bit of a stumbling block.
The session therefore did not cover the question etc as was originally anticipated but concentrated in bolstering this general topic area.
Attached is a list of relevant definitions with some additional explanation; note that where different literature and standards adopt noticeably different definitions of which I am aware then I have generally given multiple ones alongside so it is easy to see the similarities but also the differences in utilisation.
For example the distinction when discussing a train there is a clear distinction between Availability (is it ok to leave the depot on time) and Reliability (does it complete its day's diagram without failing) as it undertakes a "mission", but the definitions inevitably have to be slightly different for something that is on 24/7/365 continuous duty such as an interlocking.
I have also attached an extract of presentation used as well as a series of 20 questions that should help you put yourself into the mindset of trying to think ahead into the later life-cycle stages, in just the same sort of way that anyone does when planning a journey / holiday away etc. and it is important to have "got everything in place" before starting off on the adventure.
