Exam preparation- where to start?

Dear Sir,

I am applying for member and would like to take part in examination for Module 7 and module 1.
As I am very green on that, do you have study notes to be shared. Since I look at the study, the range is wide. And, I do not have book or referrences for myself. Therefore, I do not know how to start with it.

Thank you for your help.

From what you tell me I assume that October 2010 rather than October 2009 would be the examination to prepare for, but starting now is a good idea.

On the IRSE website there is a Reading List and a Syllabus available to download for free. I suggest you then see what of these might be available from your emploer or work colleagues locally, but someare downloadable from the internet, others would require purchase.

Similarly the complete set of 2008 Past Papers are available on the IRSE's website so these should give you an idea of the style of questions asked in each module.

The IRSE now make the Study DVD available to those who register for the exam inclusive in the entrance fee; I am afraid that I don't know what are the arrangements for selling it separately. Previously students bought the individual Study Packs as they required them but paid a lower fee for the exam than is mnow the case. May be worth enquiring when you submit your application for student / associate membership- the sooner you do this then the sooner you'll receive IRSE News that provides a monthly selection or reading to expand your knowledge that is always useful background for undertaking the exam.

This independent website exists for people to share material, queries, their attempted answers; anything relevant for which they own the copyright / have suitable permission to make public. Unfortunately we do not currently have permission from the IRSE to make available here Past Papers or the Study Packs. I have placed what I have readily available and a few others have also contributed so it is well worth spending time investigating what is here aready and if you are looking for something specific then post a question as that may motivate someone to add something extra for everyone's benefit.

Module 1 is indeed a wide scope and hence it would generally not be a module that I'd advise most to tackle first- it does depend on experience though. Module 7 is probably the one to focus on initially as the scope is more readily defined and easier to study for.
