Hi there, what is the fundamental difference between c2 and b2 cable, I know the strands in the cores are different but can it perform the same for example same voltage put down it etc

I must admit that I am very rusty on this! Certainly the C class cables are really for tail cables between the track / on track equipment to disconnection box and/or location case. I believe that they have more but thinner individual strands so that it is more flexible; also that the outer sheath is more robust compared to the B class cables that are to be used in Surface Concrete Troughing etc as lineside cables from REB to locations or locations to locations. These cables tend to have just one solid conductor for each core and therefore can be directly terminated on a terminal block etc. rather than needing all the strands put / twisted together and installed in a pin or ring crimp which is then terminated accordingly.

Otherwise in terms of the voltage to which they can work or, size for size, the current they can carry then there is no difference.

There is probably a bit more to it than that, but I think this summarises the essential differences.

If you look at the old Railway Group Standard on this, it gives the details. The NR standard basically replicates this but whereas RGS are freely available, NR don't make theirs available publicly (even though much of the content has its origin in RGS docs!)

i had given to mock design of cable schematic and cable core plan for a project. I got some guidence from my trainer but i need to had a view on some of the schematic and core plans, if anyone had sample or already done Core plans, please post. I also need some suggessions regarding how to design these two as I am doing the for the first time.
