1. Yes, I know I work better with a deadline in sight.
2. Yes, I think different people will bring different things to the answers...
3. This will be my first year taking any IRSE exams, and I'm just starting to study ....
4. ... I have colleagues that I can go to for help, but in terms of a study group/setting a study timetable it's just me.
5. .... I'm ok with posting in the forum itself.
6. .....working towards the exams with the guidance others, and with others who are in the same boat makes it a bit less daunting. Obviously the success of it depends on the participants.
Thanks for your reply; sounds as if you want broadly similar things and you seem to have the attitude to make this work.
It's good to hear from one of those who was been registered on the website for some time but who has previously been silent I am sure that there are many like you who we need to encourage to get into the water rather than just watch from the edge. Even if some of what I write below does not actually apply to you as an individual it may still be relevant as a "representative of the silent majority"
Based on what little I know, I am guessing that whereas Merlin has quite a lot of knowledge and therefore wants to start off straightaway with attempting Past papers, this may perhaps be a bit of a "tall order" for you.
However I suggest that we do start with the Control tables 2004 paper and use that as a litmus test- however don't panic if that does seem way beyond you at present:
a) Just getting yourself organised with considering the form of blank CT you would use is a useful start
b) Sitting down attempting to do it will at least give you a focus to read some of the Study material you have to hand
c) similarly you can approach colleagues with a specific question in mind
d) I'll be able to use your attempt to gain a clearer idea re where you are starting from.
If we find that this is too much too quickly then we can move to something rather simpler and lead you through it rather more.
You obviously have the mod 3 Study Pack; I am right in assuming that this is via the 2008 DVD and that you therefore have access to the 2004 layout 3 and the question paper that defines the points and routes to be undertaken?
Merlin listed a good range of reerence books- to what do you have access? Have you ever attended courses such as BST, IST that have covered Control tables and do you have the notes available? Have you looked around and downloaded material from this website?
Suggest start off by deciding upon the form of CT blank to start using- you may well change your mind from experience of practice but you need to start off somewhere.
