As mentioned above, the Northern Line is being re-signalled by Thales along with the Jubilee Line. The product being used for these lines is the SELTRAC S40 system that is in use on Docklands and elsewhere as mentioned above.
There are several changes to the base product for it's implementation on LU, the main one being the provision of Route Secure as a degraded mode to fit with the LU Rule Book.
The system is based on track to train communication providing movement authority to the train. This is provided by inductive loops within the permanent way. These loops also provide the primary method of train detection, the secondary method being provided by axle counters. The axle counters are used predominantly for deadlocking of points and degraded mode operation. There will be no lineside signals, except is areas of overlay for interoperability with non-SELTRAC fitted trains. There will however be a lot of signage required lineside for degraded modes.
