Reduced overlap
#9
Yes NR use both:
REDUCED (i.e. instead of full overlap, less than the standard length, but justified by low approach speed and TPWS effectiveness, but with normal aspect sequence)
and
RESTRICTED (generally in addition to the full overlap, with Warning Class route on signal in ear imposing approach release)

Confusion is that pre mid 1980s there was no such thing as what is now known as REDUCED but at that time the overlap associated with a Warner route was called "REDUCED" (which then confusingly later got redefined to be what we now call "RESTRICTED".)

The confusion this has caused over the years is significant; it was eminently forseeable- therefore the person who changed the nomenclature is culpable and if I ever find out who it was............

I was referring to Group standards GK/RT 0064 - Provision of Overlaps, Flank Protection and Trapping and found 2 different definitions for Reduced and Restricted Overlap.

Do we still use the Reduced overlaps? I have referred Network Rail standards and could find about any Reduced overlaps.

Does the delayed yellow also refers to Restricted overlap, only?

Please clarify.

Thanks & Regards
