Have a look at the Mod 3 study guide, and for much better detail PJW's Mod2 guide from a few years ago which is in the mod2 further reading section.

As far as the question goes, in order to answer the second part you need to choose the first well. I agree that you must assume a single bi-di line rather than a temporary arrangement, and that you don't want to start with pilotman if that is your contingency measure. I would also choose something that is a through-line (like you have with RETB) rather than a dead-end branch (One train working for example). RETB is a good option, so is token machines.

I've not looked at your posts - I hope someone with better MOD5 knowledge will do that shortly.
