Module 3 2011 layout
#1
Dear Members,

I have one doubt in Module 3 2011 layout.

Signal 352 is a Position light signal having 3 routes (352C(M), 352B(S), 352A(M)).

Main & Warning classes of route can exist only between two main signals but in Signal 352, routes 352C(M) & 352A(M) is existing between Position light signal & Main signal. Is it correct ?

Kindly clarify.

Hi NJK

You've spotted the deliberate error, placed there to check the understanding of the careless reader!

You're quite right, by definition all routes from 352 must be shunt class.

It's a "copy & paste, find & replace" error, owing to the general similarity between the choice of routes from 346, 348 and 352.

Indeed- it is not unusual for there to be such errors on plans; I feel there is not the same degree of independent checking as for a real signalling job. However imany a true word said in jest; it might even be deliberate; a test whether someone has sufficient confident to assert by making an assumption or alternatively is easily thrown by something unexpected.......

From an examiners mouth:

There are no deliberate errors on the layout. An occassional error does make it through the checking, the checking that is done does focus on the details that are needed for the control tables asked for in the question.

In the case of the one identified here, this error shouldn't affect a candidate completing the control tables asked for. This error was spotted whilst marking the paper (as was the fact 214B(S) is not possible) and we discussed whether any candidates would have been disadvantaged.

If candidates do spot something they think is wrong when sitting the exams, my advice would be to state this on your answer.
