Module 5
#1
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone else is considering to take Module 5 this year.

Also if there any suggestions for exam technique, preparation, useful texts, etc.

Thanks
Regards

The Study Pack is one of the better ones in my view: I believe that for 2008 this will be supplied as part of what you get for your exam entrance fee.

Most people find that it is worth getting to grips with track circuit calculations; it is ALMOST guaranteed to come up every year and with practice can be reasonably easy marks. Depends of course whether you are more comfortable with maths than English essays.....

The "landscape" IRSE Text Book "Railway Signalling" doesn't show its age too badly for module 5 and so I think I would start with the relevant chapters of that book- it is perhaps more written for mainline than metro, but much is still applicable.

Hope you found the other posting useful. I have a copy of the CD-ROM we made for last year's GM Rail day that had some additional stuff on it as well that you'd find useful- send me an email / message and we'll work out how best to get to you; I am running a module 2 session next Tuesday at Euston for example

We are studying module 5 as part of the study group in Bristol. I shall encourage the particiapnts to put some notes here when we hold a discussion. In the meantime, if you have access to the study pack or some of the past papers, have you had a go at any of the questions that you can post here for people to be able to advise you on?

I would also be helpful to know what equipment / railway practices you are familiar with as some of the ideas / requirements of the UK mainline may not be relevant to you.
