The question is:
Question 4
An international two-track high-speed railway uses a transmission-based in-cab signalling system. A frequent service is provided by train operators from two different countries and there are some language difficulties, although drivers are expected to be bi-lingual.
a) Describe a suitable degraded method of operation which will ensure the safe operation
of the railway in the event of a complete failure of the transmission-based signalling
system affecting 50km of route. [15 marks]
b) Briefly describe any additional equipment or facilities which must be provided in order
to facilitate your chosen degraded method of operation. [5 marks]
c) What additional risks are introduced as a result of your chosen degraded method of
operation? [5 marks]
